Therapist

Matthew

He, Him

Hi there, I'm Matthew! I received my Master's of Social Work from Boise State university in 2022, but I have been working in the mental health profession for over seven years in various roles and capacities. I have been a youth mentor, a group facilitator, a child welfare worker, and have been working in family, group, and individual therapy since completing my degree. I have a special interest in working with LGBT+ clients who are struggling with identity issues, trauma, and faith transitions. Figuring out who we are and how we belong is a difficult and sometimes challenging task, and it's okay to ask for help.

I am EMDR trained and much of my approach with my clients is trauma and attachment focused, how what happened to us throughout the lifespan shapes how we view the world, our relationships, and ourselves. I believe that therapy is hard work, focused on challenging unhelpful beliefs and creating meaningful ones.

I am looking forward to hearing your story and figuring out how we can work together to cultivate meaningful relationships, boundaries, self-acceptance, and growth.

Jayne Sumner, LCSW

Founder/Clinical Director

Jayne

She, Her

Before founding Blue Skies Counseling, Jayne had many years of experience in community mental health treatment. Before becoming a therapist, she had experience as a case manager by  working hands on with people who are homeless and/or mentally ill, and has knowledge of local resources for help.  She also worked in residential treatment for women with co-occurring disorders, and has experience with teaching groups for people with addictions as well as treating a variety of mental health disorders and conditions in individual therapy sessions. She has been trained in EMDR, is learning IFS, and focuses on helping others heal from trauma.

"We are human, and we all have trauma of one sort or another. EMDR helps separate the intense emotions from the memory and creates new neural pathways to help heal the traumatic feelings and thoughts. It's exciting to see clien reactions in session when they realize they no longer have an emotional response to the memory that has been bothering them for a while, often years." Jayne also is actively learning about IFS, and loves helping people notice, engage with, and heal their parts. "We all have parts that sometimes want different things. An important part of healing is recognizing our parts and how to help them heal."

Jayne loves being creative, reading, painting, backpacking, playing with her dogs, and traveling.

Jayne is currently NOT accepting new clients.
